Nepal Flood Relief Update

Since the devasting floods that occurred in August 2026, we have sought to contact all our ministry partners in Nepal to ensure their safety. We are thankful to report that all are well. Grace Missions has been able to partner with the local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to provide household and cooking packages to the communities and help them rebuild their lives.

Maili Rai* 53, and her husband lived in Belkotgadhi Municipality–7, Nuwakot. The flood swept away stored rice and maize and almost all their household belongings. Their home was severely damaged, and they moved into rented accommodation. With assets lost, paying rent and meeting basic needs became a concern.

“The flood took away everything we had built over 53 years. Apart from the clothes we were wearing, almost nothing was left. We never imagined that our lives could change so suddenly.”

The cooking utensils, stove, and gas cylinder provided through the project enabled the household to prepare meals more easily and regain part of its daily routine. Maili expressed gratitude for the assistance and identified safe housing as a continuing need.

"Now we can prepare our food ourselves and on time. We are truly grateful for this support. We would also like to request further support to construct a small home where we can live safely.”

Shree Krishna Nepal*, 63, is a retired teacher whose home and belongings were destroyed in the flood. He survived, but his family was left with very little and moved into a nearby friend’s house. The sudden loss left him distressed and uncertain about how to rebuild.

“Who knows that a situation like this could happen to me? Just a few days ago, I was supporting children with their education. But now, I am here with empty hands, receiving materials from you.”

Receiving essential cooking equipment helped the family prepare food independently while living through displacement. He described the assistance as a source of practical relief and encouragement.

“I am very grateful for the complete support we received. After losing almost everything, this assistance has given me hope. Now we can cook for ourselves and support our family during this difficult time.”

Families displaced. Homes and houses destroyed. Livelihoods completely wiped out.

Much more still needs to be done. Not just in terms of aid but also in pastoral and emotional support for survivors. The UN International Organisation for Migration estimates that nearly 84,000 individuals were affected by the floods. Amidst a daily rising death toll, 5000 individuals remain missing as of 30 September 2026.

Grace Missions stands ready to support our ministry partners – whether in resources or prayers, as Nepal looks ahead to a season of recovery and rebuilding.
